Timo Geldenhuys:

``Opportunities are Available for Different Budgets``

Wondering when to make the move and secure a safe and sound investment in our paradise island? With a set of new measures announced recently in the 2021-2022 budget speech and the reopening of the Mauritian borders, now is a perfect time.
From the tax incentives to the Premium Travel Visa and the purchase process of real estate in Mauritius, four panelists participated in a webinar on Wednesday, 28th of June, to bring clarity on investment options available to the South African and foreign markets.

The Panel

Among the panelists Timo Geldenhuys, Managing Partner at Mauritius Sotheby’s International Realty shed light on the advantages of living in Mauritius. “The property market has evolved massively in recent years, the government has also been proactive in giving access to the properties in the country to foreigners. One of the main reasons to buy in Mauritius is the access to permanent residency for the buyer and his family, and there is also no age limit for the dependents; children or parents, to accompany the primary buyer. There is also the investment limit which is now fixed at USD 375 000 to get access to an occupation permit through the acquisition of property, as well the G +2 which also now qualifies for the permits .”
According to Timo, there are different ways of acquiring property, whether it is through an off-plan project or a built property. “I encourage every foreigner with an ambition to move to Mauritius to do their homework, be it from an educational or health perspective. Mauritius is an awesome place to raise your kids, and at Mauritius Sotheby’s International Realty, we have the experience and can help in answering all your questions.”

What About the Cost of Living?

Commodity prices and cost of living, in general, is a major concern when choosing a new home country to live, retire or work.
The managing partner of Mauritius Sotheby’s International Realty explains that the Mauritian cost of living is indeed very competitive and higher compared to South Africa, however, it should be noted that a foreigner pays only 15% income tax. “There are opportunities available for different budgets, and here you won’t only be buying a property but also peace of mind and safety.”

To help make up your mind, foreigners are encouraged to test-drive the destination through the Premium Travel Visa, where you can come and work remotely from the island, without your salary coming from your country of origin, being taxed. Numerous properties all over the island are also available for rent.
So, do not hesitate and dive into a life of wonders in the paradise island.
